The flow of the design is shaped to function together as a constant, harmonized space, with a bright signature interior layout and style concocted by Dobroserdov and shaped by Rome's Michela Reverberi. The first decks guests are presented are Strato's aft decks, with vast expanses for socializing and entertaining. The design's flexibility becomes visible in these split aft decks- great sculpted areas of open space invite imagination toward all possibilities aboard. These aft decks' drama is punctuated by the presence of an immense, carefully designed infinity pool perched over its transom, balanced between levels. Whether acting as a free flowing, flexible beach club, a party vessel, or a perfect family escape, Strato's spaces significantly supersede the size of those found on yachts more than ten meters longer.

She also maintains a higher level of functionality and flexibility than any available even on much larger vessels, and allows everyone aboard to thrive, as the Strato adapts to every need. Since Curvelle announced their ground-breaking superyacht power catamaran 'quaranta' the news has been buzzing about this 'smart' superyacht with it’s re-configurable interior, super huge windows and a lot more. Also recently announced was the Curvelle syndicate ownership initiative which certainly caught the imagination of many yachtsmen who want superyacht benefits and luxury for the investment level of a new 55ft motor boat.

Clean sheet of paper

As with other announcements from Curvelle regarding the 'quaranta' yachts series we like to use the phrase 'a clean sheet of paper'. Why? because the whole project and development has not had to be compromised by old thinking or normal yacht design parameters or restrictions. The vision was to design and build a unique compact superyacht on a highly stable catamaran hull form.
The list of benefits is extensive, fast, fuel efficient and as much interior volume and deck space as a mono hull yacht nearly 10m longer.

The 34m twin hull with a 9m beam allows for a wide hydraulic aft platform between the hulls that can launch the tender, create a beach club or even accommodate a small submarine (even a 4x4 vehicle) and very specific to this news review, create the ideal platform for access when boarding guests with mobility restrictions from a tender.



Take the elevator to the sun deck or make a splash at the beach club

The Curvelle team took a detailed view on how to create the ideal custom yacht solution for owners or guests with reduced mobility beyond the benefits already incorporated in the original design. The whole process from the tender design, passerelle and movement to all decks was carefully considered then enhanced further with the addition of electric powered berths and the aft platform being able to submerge some 85cm to enable easy swimming.

Curvelle founder Luuk V. van Zanten takes up the story ''In her standard configura- tion the 'quaranta' makes an ideal yacht for anyone who requires wheelchair access, the tender platform can be used to facilitate wheelchair movements, the interior as standard has wide doors to all areas and the side decks at 92cm wide can also be easily accessed. Add to this an optional 'stair climber' apparatus which can get
a wheelchair up the staircases in less than one minute, the 'quaranta' is ideal for wheelchair users.

Our original research found that superyacht owners very often had older parents who need wheelchair assistance and found it frustrating that they could not be included in the cruising itinerary. That's why we addressed this factor right from the start. We obviously prioritised getting the project underway and starting the build of the first yacht, which incidentally is on schedule, before we completed the design scheme for a more specialised custom yacht where we added a glazed lift. We feel that adding this newsworthy additional custom option enhances the whole Curvelle 'family' which will deliver a world class compact superyacht series''.

Let us look at a typical scenario and how the mobility systems dovetail seamlessly together on the standard version. A crew member lowers the XL size passerelle onto the quay where the owner or guest can drive a powered wheelchair or mobility scooter onto the aft main deck and access any of the six guest cabins on this level. The cruising experience also includes powered articulated beds so when relaxing in the cabin the owner or guest can enjoy the panoramic views offered by the extra- large windows. The cabins are so different from most yachts of this size with window spaces of nearly 2.8 x 1m creating a cabin ambience of a small cruise liner.

If the owner or guest would like the 'spa' treatment a waterproof wheelchair can safely lower the person into the water down to a depth of 85cm, for seawater swim- ming with other guests. The lowered platform then rises to become the beach club, which can have a floating safety net to keep out unwanted marine life. Under the platform are air nozzles to complete the 'spa' experience. The outdoor ambience is further enhanced by two seawater waterfalls and as the sun goes down the under- water lighting turns the whole experience into a floor show.

On a custom version, forward on the main deck is a compact glazed elevator which accommodates the scooter. This then allows access to the upper deck and upwards to the sundeck. The glazed lift on the sun deck is cleverly incorporated at the front of the fixed bimini which has been extended forward to incorporate this feature.

Superyacht 2 Ladies Completes Sea Trials

Rossi Navi has announced the successful sea trials of their 46 meter motoryacht, 2 Ladies, designed by Mulder Design.

2 Ladies has a steel hull and aluminium superstructure. She is a semi-displacement superyacht powered by twin Caterpillar C32 ACERT engines with 1,300hp, enabling a top speed of 15.5 knots and a comfortable cruising speed of 14.5 knots.

The yacht has room for 12 guests in ten cabins with the best of luxuries. Features include two Owners' cabins, a state-of-the-art 'Technogym', sauna and a Jacuzzi area located on the fly bridge.

Having now completed her sea trials, Rossi Navi and Mulder Design will undoubtedly be introducing a distinctive superyacht to the global fleet upon her delivery.

Moonen reveals two stunning new Designs

Moonen Shipyards in the Netherlands has released details of two impressive new designs created for owners looking for a contemporary approach within the award-winning Moonen quality template. Rene van der Velden has drawn the modern lines of the 100-foot raised pilot house design while Nick Mezas is responsible for a new fast displacement concept that is being offered in three lengths between 18 and 24 metres.

“Over the decades we have become renowned for producing timeless motoryachts,” explains Emile Bilterijst, managing director of Moonen shipyards. “These superyachts are built for a wide range of clients in four diverse formats - fully custom projects, displacement cruisers, explorers and fast displacement motoryachts. These new designs will help us serve an even more varied clientele looking for an unconventional approach. It is Moonen's direct response to changing market demands.”
The Moonen 100 raised pilot house by Rene van der Velden features an owners stateroom on the main deck, with extra space in the beam thanks to the narrow walkways forward, which are now only intended for crew members to use. Elsewhere the yacht has the most economic layout possible for a boat of the size. “The challenge with a raised pilothouse configuration is that it can take a lot of space away from the flybridge,” continues Bilterijst. “To counteract this we have placed the tenders in a stern garage from where they will be launched by slipway rather than an overhead crane. This yacht is an ideal option for an owner looking for a more modern aesthetic within a clearly identifiable Moonen style of gentlemen's yacht.”

The second new design is by Nick Mezas and is available in three sizes of 18, 20 and 24 metres. “Over the past 20 years, Moonen - like many yards - has seen the length of our boats pushed upwards by its clients,” says Bilterijst. “This has an inevitable impact on the organisation, product, quality levels and costs. We have had several enquiries from entry level owners, and it is vital that we do not price ourselves out of this area.”

This new semi-series of smaller vessels will be built to CE regulations rather than class. Although there will be no change in terms of quality (“we can't build anything less than Moonen quality,” says Bilterijst), the designs benefit from a careful analysis of systems and equipment. The boats will, for example, feature only one anchor instead of two in a pocket as is usually the case with Moonen yachts, which in turn means just one anchor winch.

“A lower price and smaller yacht will attract a younger public,” expects Bilterijst. “This is also the thinking behind the more aggressive styling, while simultaneously retaining the essence of Moonen quality in terms of fuel savings, low noise and vibration levels, and the exceptional comfort of a round bilged hull. We anticipate that these clients will probably steer the boat themselves and travel with young children. The yachts will be fitted with Volvo IPS propulsion, so the engine room is placed far aft. They will fit seamlessly within our fast displacement philosophy and be capable of reaching 22 knots.”

The IPS configuration leaves lots of space free in the forward section for four cabins. This is in line with the idea that there is unlikely to be a full-time crew onboard. An open-plan layout in the saloon/wheelhouse area also reflects the social aspect of the owner and his friends/family at the helm.

Ron Holland Design is involved in a number of major refit design projects including the design for a refit of the largest sailing sloop in the world.

The world's largest sailing sloop, M5 (ex-Mirabella V) has arrived in the UK for a major refit program. The work will be carried out at the Pendennis Plus shipyard in Falmouth.

The full extent of the refit will involve exterior upgrade, new extended transom, new main deck seating arrangements, sky deck extension and redeveloped sky deck layout, also a hull side platform is being added to enhance the use of the yacht. The commission will also include replacing the main engines, generators, switchboards and sewage treatment plant along with an upgrade of the air conditioning system, electrics and entertainment systems. The mast,which is just under 90m, will be removed for an overhaul and new rigging upgrades. The sail handling systems are also receiving attention with speeding up equipment and new hardware.

The interior aspects of the refit will be carried out by Redman Whiteley Dixon and will see the main and lower decks undergo a complete restyle. Ron Holland Design are the original designers of the Mirabella V built in the UK in 2004 and are very familiar with the yacht and are perfectly positioned to enhance its appearance whilst remaining faithful to the original design.

New Horizon E54 Defines the Modern Sport Yacht

Exploring the latest advances in glass technology, DP009 features a superstructure completely finished in reflective glass.
