She was seen leaving the Blohm & Voss yard in Hamburg, Germany on Friday and reports say she is expected to arrive in Norway by May 17 or 18. Eclipse's overall length is the subject of hot industry debate with estimations ranging from 115m-170m (509ft-557ft), but research based on her IMO number reveals that she is actually 163m (535ft) long. | ISS Partners with Asia Superyacht Conference (ASC) |
July 28, 2010 The International Superyacht Society (ISS) is pleased to announce its partnership with Informa Yacht Group’s Asia Superyacht Conference (ASC) slated for 12-14 October 2010 at ONEº15 Marina Club in Singapore. Now in its second year, ASC will focus on superyacht design and construction, superyacht ownership and sales strategies in Asia as well as discussing Asia as a truly world-class cruising and chartering destination. “In 2009, then ISS President, Lance Cushion, both attended and presented at the Conference. For 2010, he brought the idea of a partnership between ISS and the conference and its organizers, IYG, before ISS’s executive leadership. We unanimously and wholeheartedly endorse the undertaking and are proud to be a partner in the endeavour,” says Bob Saxon, current ISS President. The inaugural event included 150 superyachting professionals from 30 countries; initiatives presented and discussed resulted in a number of significant developments in the Asian superyachting industry. Based largely on the excellence of presentations and the ability to network closely with one’s peers, the 2010 conference will build on the successes realized during the past year. The partnership between ASC and ISS—through which ISS is presented as an Accredited Association—is one of mutual respect with benefits developed for ISS members and conventioneers. In addition to communications efforts to maximize the importance of the conference, ISS is also able to offer its members a 5% discount on the Delegate and Workshop fees. Members interested in attending and realizing this discount should contact Amy Halsted, ISS Executive Director at seagourmet@toad.net or 540.784.4561. ISS continues to forge alliances with the world’s superyachting associations, organizations, companies, captains and individuals. As the leading voice of the large yacht industry, it is an ISS priority to build a close system of allegiances for the good of the industry worldwide. |
| Hamble yachtswoman in dramatic rescue |
July 28, 2010
Falmouth Coastguard launched a rescue helicopter and the RNLI sent the Sennen Cove and St Mary's all-weather lifeboats after an alert, in the early hours of Sunday 18 July, that a yacht had lost someone overboard. Returning from a regatta in Cork, Buccaneer was some 50 miles north-west of Land's End, enduring heavy seas and Force 6 winds. Prue Nash, a yacht broker from Hamble, was operating the sails when, despite being clipped on, she fell through a guard rail. Her harness and lifejacket caught on the underside of the yacht, pinning her under water, so she had to remove them to regain the surface. She then trod water for two cold and exhausting hours in the dark until help arrived. Prue acknowledges she was terrified but lucky - although airlifted straight to hospital from the incident, she was unhurt. A Coastguard spokesman paid tribute to her seamanship in being able to endure an ordeal that would have proved fatal for many. http://www.pbo.co.uk/news/491910/hamble-yachtswoman-in-dramatic-rescue |
| Update on Yacht Fire - La Diva |
July 1, 2010
WEST PALM BEACH — The city's fire-rescue chief met with executives from Rybovich Marina this morning to discuss fire prevention policies one day after a 104-foot yacht burned all day at the marina. Three firefighters from West Palm Beach Fire-Rescue received minor injuries Sunday while battling the flames on the 'La Diva' yacht, owned by a Palm Beach Gardens couple. Fire-Rescue Chief Phil Webb met with officials to discuss the possibility of having fire-fighting foam available at the marina in case of future fires, city spokesman Chase Scott said. "They talked about how to effectively fight fires there in the future," Scott said. "One of the things that is important is to have a large supply of foam." The "La Diva" was heading into the Palm Beach Inlet when the fire broke out about 5:30 a.m. The captain pulled into the nearest dock he could find and the crew evacuated. The boat's owner is a customer at the marina, said Assistant Fire Chief Carlos Cabrera. Marina workers moved nearby yachts away from "La Diva." Docked at Rybovich Marina, which is on Flagler Drive just south of 45th Street, the boat's structure, including a 3,000-gallon diesel tank, burned for more than 12 hours Sunday. |
