I hope this finds you well, happy and as comfortable as you want to be.

I’ve come to a realisation over the past few months, and to understand this, I’d better explain myself first.

Over the past few years I’ve tried hard to adapt to land life and even running stink-pots, and you know what? – I can’t do either, with my heart, head, or even my bank balance. I’ve tried really hard to do what “makes sense”, but it does not make sense to me.

I’ve never been one to chase tickets, but finally I’ve bitten the bullet, and in a couple of weeks will have my STCW95 (what do these initials stand for anyway?).

As BP maneuvers through a public relations nightmare, coastal residents and marine industry professionals can only plan for their day-to-day, as even the near-future remains unknown.

The hardest hit industries will definitely be that of fishing, seafood, and tourism. And just like the ocean harbors an underwater food chain, the Gulf Coast State Industries resemble a chain as well. Not only will the marine industries be directly affected by the spill, but so will the businesses that sell goods and services to those fishermen; from restaurants to small stores.

ADELAIDE, Australia – The first day Abby Sunderland was stranded in the Southern Ocean, Australia's rescue agency chartered a jet to fly over the area where her emergency beacon was activated.

The 11-hour flight cost an estimated 110,000 Australian dollars (US $94,500).

The second day, after locating her, the agency sent another plane to coordinate her pickup by ships racing toward her damaged and drifting yacht.

These days more owners choose to anchor out, rather than seek a berth in a crowded marina that requires much advanced planning. With proper stabilization -designed for at-rest conditions and

efficiently engineered for low drag under way- marina berthing is no longer necessary: one can sleep tranquilly at anchor, without losing much performance at sea.

Hertogenbosch, The Netherlands: Etoile d'Azur, the seventh in the highly successful Moonen 84 series, crossed the Atlantic Ocean last December, from Gibraltar to Sint Maarten, via the Azores (3.350 nm). Delivered to her owner in May 2007, she is the first Moonen 84 to do so since the series was initiated in 2002, proving that this "pocket-size superyacht" has the range and reliability worthy of the name.

As most may know, the Florida Jobs Bill in the State's Legislature could give yacht buyers a tax break on the purchase of yachts bought in Florida. At first glance it may seem like a nice tax break for the wealthy. And in a way, it is.

Will Florida Legistatures impose a tax cap on yacht purchases made in Florida?
